Taste like home: Ooops!

Duh! I took pictures right after I received my wonderful Taste Like Home package and apparently I saved the post as a draft instead of publishing it. Sorry it took so long!

I was intrigued when I first read about a new blogging event sponsored by Megan of Megans Cookin and April of Abby Sweets. Their Taste Like Home event sounded like lots of fun. The premise was simple. You gather up items that remind you of your hometown and swap them with another blogger living somewhere else. It sounded really neat ... until I got paired up with Megan and had to search out foods that reminded me of my hometown. Yikes! Most of my childhood food memories involved copious amounts of cream-of-something soups or hours spent weeding the garden or breaking beans or shucking corn. Not things that can easily be sent through the mail (and as far as the cream soups, really shouldn't be. Blech!) All in all, my of the foods I remember growing up with here in Indiana were pretty bland and majorly overcooked. Suffice it to say, I really struggled with what to send! LOL!

Megan was my partner and she sent a great assortment of things from California:

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Jam -- What more can you say? Delicious!

Edible Shasta-Butte magazine -- It has a great article on grilling veggies and a recipe for Thai Eggplant that I can't wait to try. Yum!

Osker's Spicy Garlic Marinade & BBQ Sauce -- We'll be trying this at our big Back-to-School cook-out we're having tomorrow night.

Chef Ryan's Q-Rubs Tri-Tip Rub -- We'll be using this tomorrow night as well.

Olina Ridge California Extra Virgin Olive Oil -- I can't wait to try this!

Jason's Soap Creations, Orange & Clove -- Beautiful!

Honey

Lavender Vanilla Gourmet Scone Mix -- Yum!

Shea Lavender Healing Lip Balm and Body Frosting

Fabulous Fixin's Cream Cheese Cake Mix -- I seriously can't wait to try this.

Spiced Pecans -- Megan made these herself! My dh is in heaven. LOL!

What a great event! This was the first time I'd participated in an event like this and I had a blast. Thanks April and Megan!!!
