Asian Market Trip

I had a chance to run downtown this week. Living out in the country, I try to avoid going into town as much as possible. This week, I made the trek so that I could go out to lunch with my mom. So-so lunch. Nothing to write home about but luckily for me, the restaurant was located next to an Asian Market. I was able to find all sorts of goodies that I can't find at my local grocery store: freshly dried hot peppers, good sesame oil, Chinese noodles, dal, dried fungus --the kids were excited about that one. Not! All sorts of goodies I hope to have fun experimenting with sometime soon. And I was excited to find that the owner of the market teaches a month cooking class. I'm doubly excited because I was able to try one of her egg rolls at the blues festival we went to recently and they were to die for! I can't wait!

I love shopping at our Asian market! They have such wonderful ingredients that I can't find anywhere else.

I hope you take one of their classes, I'd love to read what you learn from it!

Call the mushrooms by their other name wood ear fungus and watch the kids run away even faster :)

I personally am hypnotized by the dried mushroom sections of Asian grocery stores. I love them all!
